My little man...

Yesterday was my son's birthday.  He turned two at 3:48 pm CDT.  I can't believe where the time has gone!  It seems just yesterday we were bringing home our new baby!  Now he's walking and talking and fighting with his older sister!

His life started off kind of rocky, but it is getting better.  If we can just get through the terrible twos, there should be some smooth sailing for a little while.  Alexander, whom we call Xander, had a terrible problem with jaundice when he was born.  He had a hematoma on his head, probably from the old trip down the birth canal, and his body could not handle all of the waste products so the bilirubin built up in his system.  I brought him home on August 1 and on August 2 had to take him to the local Children's Hospital (rated #3 in the United States BTW) for a week of light therapy.

They had these little felt "sunglasses" that blocked his eyes from the lights (that's what the velcro spots on his temples are for).  After they let us come home, he did well - even with having his blood taken from his foot to check levels every other day.  Too this day, though he does not like lying down on the paper examining table at the doctor's office.  About 10 days after being home from the hospital after the jaundice he spiked a fever and back we went to Children's.  We spent another week in the hospital trying to figure out where the fever came from - it never was determined.  They think that he had some sort of virus.

After all of that, it is now two years later and he is a little fireball one minute and a cuddly Momma's boy the next.  Happy Birthday Xander!  Mommy loves you!
